Looking for a cool and virtual way to give back to the community? Action in Community Through Service (ACTS) has the answer.
ACTS is hosting their first ever online food drive, to get fresh food donations for their food pantry.
In Prince William County, ACTS is a non-profit that assists those in need with a variety of services including housing and food assistance.
During farmer’s market season, the food pantry receives several thousand pounds of produce each week from the Dale City Farmer’s Market through the VA Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners.
Once the market is closed for the season, however, ACTS relies strictly on “seconds” produce from grocery stores. This means they are giving clients a lot less produce and what they are giving them will likely spoil if not used immediately.
This is where the online food drive comes in.
Donors can go online and donate funds for fresh produce, and it will be delivered directly to the food pantry as a donation. All donations qualify for a tax donation receipt that will be sent via email.
ACTS goal is to get 1,000 pounds of produce donated over the course of the drive, which runs until March 2.
