As a way to highlight the importance of giving and healthy eating, all Prince William students can get free breakfast from their school tomorrow.
The giveaway is being done as part of the “Feed Virginia Day of Action”, and Virginia First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe will visit Potomac High School tomorrow to discuss healthy eating and the school’s Second Chance breakfast program, stated a release.
According to a release, while Prince William County Schools (PWCS) serve around 56,000 lunches per day, they serve far fewer breakfasts to students.
“We hope to give the students and their familes a taste of what they’re missing. Hungry kids face challenges with concentration and learning, so sampling the breakfast program may be just what they need to feed success,” stated PWCS Director of Food and Nutrition Services Adam Russo in a release.
More on the giveaway, from a release:
The free breakfast day will highlight a number of PWCS initiatives, including “grab & go” and “second chance” breakfast programs, that make it easy for all students to get a healthy start, while eliminating any stigma associated with taking advantage of school meals.
Free breakfasts on September 29 will be provided to students at no cost to the School Division. Food and Nutrition Services pays for itself by operating efficient and cost-effective eateries at every school and other Division facilities. The free breakfast day is their investment in promoting those operations, while delivering on the Division’s commitment to educating every student and fighting hunger.
