Members of the public can begin the new year in nature.
Leesylvania State Park will hold its First Day Hike from 10 a.m. to Noon and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on January 1.
The event begins at the visitor center of the park, which stands at 2001 Daniel K. Ludwig Drive in Woodbridge.
It will include a visit to the history museum, and a 2-mile hike along Potomac Trail, Freestone Point, and Lee’s Woods Trail.
Pets may participate in the walk as long as they are on a leash, according to the Virginia State Parks website. Certain trails aren’t able to accommodate strollers.
Following the First Day Hike, attendees may enjoy hot beverages and light snacks that the Friends of Leesylvania are providing.
Leesylvania State Park visitors don’t need to worry about parking fees, as they will be waived that day.
