There comes a time – whether it’s later this month or after the new year begins – that the Christmas trees and other holiday greenery have got to go.
A local agency is offering an alternative to the landfill. Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) will be providing a new purpose for these decorations – turning them into mulch, according to a release.
“Recycling holiday greens is just another way we help area residents and the environment,” NOVEC Vegetation Management manager Rick Carpenter said in a release.
Between December 26 and January 9, the public may bring Christmas trees and greenery to NOVEC’s technical center. The facility sits at 5399 Wellington Branch Road in Gainesville.
The items that are meant to be recycled should be dropped off in the area sectioned off by the safety cones in the parking lot. Ornaments, lights and other decorations must be removed.
