Members of the public are taking a chance in Dumfries this week.
Rosie’s Gaming Emporium is opening on Friday.
“We’re so excited to be here in Northern Virginia and we hope to see everybody Friday morning,” Colonial Downs Group Regional Marketing Director Nate Mize said.
The opening is less than a year after the Town Council approved a Conditional Use Permit (CUP).
Located at 18069 Triangle Shopping Plaza, the Dumfries gaming facility will spread across about 18,600 square feet.
A restaurant, bar, and off track betting space are among its features.
Community support is one focus of the business.
Each year, Dumfries will receive about $720,000 from Rosie’s. According to Mize, it’s a 20 percent increase for the town.
The business has already started supporting local non-profits.
“So, our charitable giving program is called ‘Rosie’s Gives Back’, Mize explained. “We’ve currently donated over $730,000 to the communities in which we operate. That includes a $50,000 donation to the local Boys & Girls Club here in Dumfries.”
In 2021, $1,000 will be donated each week to a charity located in a community it operates in.
COVID-19 precautions are being taken.
Employees and visitors of the Dumfries gaming facility must have their temperatures checked, and masks are required.
Panels have also been placed on the floor every 6 feet, as well.
“That way, everybody can come out, enjoy themselves, have fun, still feel safe while visiting Rosie’s,” Mize said.
For now, Rosie’s Gaming Emporium is going to be open between 8 a.m. and midnight. After the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, its hours will change to 8 a.m. to 2 a.m., Sunday through Thursday; and 8 a.m. to 4 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
