Members of the General Heiser Boys & Girls Club have places to be. A recent donation is helping them get there.
Colonial Downs Group, the operator of Rosie’s Gaming Emporium, has donated $50,000 to the youth non-profit. A check was presented at the club on Monday.
“We have a program – a community-based program – ‘Rosie’s Gives Back’, and what we do is we look at community needs, and one of the needs that was brought to our attention was the Boys & Girls Club,” Vice President of Government Affairs and Community Relations of Colonial Downs Lisa Speller explained.
Rosie’s Gaming Emporium, once completed, will open at 18059-18139 Triangle Shopping Plaza. The Dumfries Town Council approved a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) in February.
Its donation will go toward a new bus.
“We use the buses to transport kids to and from school, and to get a new one is just so exciting for us,” Dumfries Boys & Girls Club Branch Director Judy Moore explained. “With more buses, we can keep the kids socially distanced and make sure we’re following all the CDC guidelines.”
