Get ready for some good eats – Duck Donuts is coming to Woodbridge.
The regional donut chain is going to have their own location coming to Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center this summer, according to owner Larry Scherer.
Just last August, Scherer opened another successful franchise location in Bristow, and several more store openings are expected this year.
“The Bristow store has been great. We’ve got a lot of Duck Donuts fans out here – business has been doing very well…we’ve always had multiple stores in the plan…because we were pretty sure that the brand was going to be successful and that Northern Virginia was a very good market for it,” said Scherer.
Duck Donuts started as a local donut shop in the Outer Banks in North Carolina and has continued to grow on the East Coast.
According to Scherer, the Woodbridge location will be situated between Not Your Average Joe’s and Sports Zone Elite at Potomac Town Center.
While the Duck Donuts location will still offer the same fare: donuts, made-to-order donuts, breakfast sandwiches, and coffee, the 2,392 square foot space will allow them to provide more seating and space for their customers.
“We’re going to be able to have a little bit bigger [of a] party room…we’re also going to have some more seating. We’re going to have some counter-style seating for people to sit down and eat, and enjoy their donuts in the store,” said Scherer.
Scherer said that they’re looking to hire 10 full-time and 30 part-time employees to staff the store, and they are very excited about what the new location will bring.
“It’s exciting – it’s uncharted territory for us. Both my business partner and I have started and grown other businesses, but this one is exciting because you get to get a lot of community involvement. We’ve already had the opportunity through our Bristow store to give back to the local community quite a bit, and we plan to do the same thing in Woodbridge,” said Scherer.
The Bristow location does events for charity organizations, like the Wounded Warriors, and will continue their community outreach in Woodbridge.
“We’re both from the area, and we’re excited about giving back to where we grew up,” said Scherer.
