Demolition of the old News & Messenger building is underway, as the City of Manassas makes room for a new mixed-used development.
Located on a 0.85 acre parcel at 9009 Church Street, the site owned currently by BH Media is being transformed through a development named “Old Town Heights”, according to city documents.
The Manassas City Council voted unanimously for the project back in 2014, which will bring in around 94 condo units and 3,500 square feet of retail space.
Crews are bulldozing and removing debris from the site, which has sat vacant since 2012 when the News & Messenger newspaper was closed.
Several development projects are currently underway in the Downtown Manassas area, including Manassas Station, a luxury apartment complex being built on the site of the former ABV Photo and Imaging Services building on Prince William Street.
