Volunteers and members of the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department (DCVFD) came together to make the holidays bright for several families in the area.
Each year DCVFD does “Santa visits”, where Santa and Mrs. Claus visit children at homes in Lake Ridge, Dale City, Woodbridge, and Dumfries, who have a condition or illness that prevents them from being able to see Santa during community events.
“We love doing this program, it’s brought a lot of joy to a lot of families, and we’ve made a lot of connections – we love doing this,” said Amy, a DCVFD volunteer.
“When I was little – around 5 years old – [in] 2013, Santa came to my house on the fire truck, so I feel that it’s nice to give back,” said Juliana, a young volunteer from the community.
During the visits, DCVFD volunteers and Santa take a decorated fire truck out into the community to visit the children and provide them with presents. The volunteers also sing Christmas carols to the families.
“I really thank everyone here for bringing such joy to this home for Christmastime…we’re so thankful,” said the grandmother of one of the children visited by DCVFD.
