C.O.R.E Personal Training and Pilates Studio raised $668 dollars for Relay for Life at their Open House in Woodbridge.
According to a release, the Open House was their 6th annual, and each year the proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
“Each year, owner Ruth Gordon opens her studio doors to the public, offering free classes, massages, and food. This year, there were 30 raffle prizes donated by local businesses,” stated a release.
For Gordon supporting the American Cancer Society and the Relay for Life is the right choice, because of the advocacy they do for individuals with all types of cancer.
“The reason we wanted all cancers is because of my mother who passed away from uterine cancer and my mother-in-law from brain cancer, as well as our numerous clients that have had several types of cancer. We continue to do this event every year in hopes that one day we won’t have to worry about the word ‘cancer’. We love that the money will help those that need support by going into programs that work to fund live-saving cancer research, prevention information and education, and more,” stated Gordon in a release.
Several community businesses stepped in to help, including Zoe’s Kitchen, which provided free food, and Natural Elements Massage, which provided free massages, according to a release.
“I think it’s a great function. It offers people the opportunity to see what C.O.R.E. is all about and also provides educational activities such as the cancer prevention talk. Having lost so many to cancer and being a cancer survivor, this is really important to me,” stated C.O.R.E. member Cathy Mains in a release.
