At Gemmis Technologies, we know that keeping your network secure can be very complicated. Worse, for a business not expecting a network breach, the problem can be a huge financial setback. We don’t want that to happen to you so we’ve compiled a list of tips for avoiding this and keeping your network secure.
- Change default passwords as soon as possible. Default passwords for popular models are passed around the internet and well known.
- Network scans allow administrators to know when and if harmful equipment has been installed on the network.
- Constantly examine security logs. If you see multiple attempts from unknown users and bad passwords, you’ll know something is up.
- You can detect malware and determine whether or not sensitive data is being stolen by monitoring outbound traffic.
- Keep your computer software up to date so it’s not vulnerable to breach attempts originating from the internet.
- Have a security plan. Disaster backup and recovery plans should be in place and tested regularly
- That employee may have left on good terms, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t disable old user accounts. If an attacker has inside information, breaches are more likely to occur.
- Similarly, do not reuse passwords. Even if your password is strong, it becomes less effective when used on multiple accounts.
Of course, if your time is needed on other projects, you can always call Gemmis and we’ll make sure it’s done the way you want. You can reach us at 703-942-9928 or at www.gemmistech.
