In honor of ‘America Recycles Day’, Prince William and Manassas are hosting several fun events today including giveaways and fashion shows.
One of these events is the “I Recycle” pledge event, being hosting by volunteers from Keep Prince William Beautiful and staff from the Prince William County Solid Waste Division Recycling Program.
The group will be at Chinn Park Library, Bull Run Library, and the McCoart Building from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., conducting recycling education activities and handing out prizes, according to a release.
“Visitors can also complete the ‘I Recycle’ pledge card and enter a drawing to win local, regional and national prizes. Prizes include: ‘I Recycle’ T-shirts; $300 REI gift card, $500 grant to a local school’s K-12 environmental program, $1000 Hayneedle gift card and Trex planters made of recycled material,” stated a release.
In Manassas, city staff, the Martin K. Alloy Boys & Girls Club of Manassas, American Disposal Services, and Savers are hosting a fashion show to celebrate ‘America Recycles Day’.
The fashion show will be held tonight at 6 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club at 9501 Dean Park Lane.
During the show, members of the club will be showing off their fashions made with reused and modified items from Savers, according to a release.
“The students were given a shopping trip to Savers for materials and inspiration for their own designs. Working with the City of Manassas Recycling Coordinator, the students then used the next sessions to create their masterpieces,” stated a release.
There will be judges at the event, selecting the winning designs.
“The Boys and Girls Club is thrilled for the support that Savers is providing to take our future designers and creative thinkers to the next level. We are grateful for all of the support that Savers is providing our club and the time being investing in our youth,” stated Boys & Girls Club Branch Director Nadia Pedersen in a release.
During the fashion show there will also be a “Fill-the-Truck” event where individuals are encouraged to donate gently used clothing and shoes. For each pound of donated items, the Boys & Girls Club will receive a matching donation, according to a release.
