A Woodbridge bakery is introducing community members to other cultures.
Serap Andreasen and Elif Tekin have opened Le Cake Boutique at Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center.
French macaroons, cupcakes and cake pops are a few treats that are served at the bakery, which is located at 15101 Potomac Town Place #105.
Customers can also enjoy Turkish coffee, which is used as an opportunity to socialize.
“We drink coffee and talk about what happened during that day, and then we do the fortune telling with the coffee grounds,” Tekin explained.
Le Cake Boutique makes wedding and custom cakes, as well.
The two friends, who grew up in Turkey, met in Germany when their spouses were serving in the military.
They reunited in Woodbridge later on.
Andreasen would cook and bake.
“And my passion was to … taste it — quality control,” Tekin said with a laugh.
Eventually, they decided to open the bakery, which allows them to bridge cultures.
One way they do this is through their creations, which include flavors they remember from their childhood and some suggested by customers.
“I think what makes us unique here [is] we are trying to bring the taste from our country — but not just our country, from all over the world,” Andreasen said.
Andreasen and Tekin sought to bring a personal touch to Prince William County.
“We wanted to have our customers have the conversation with the owner, other than just the employees,” Andreasen explained.
Patrons are also invited to make themselves comfortable.
“We wanted to offer a warm, cozy place where they feel like they’re at home,” Tekin added.
