A utility company is keeping Christmas trees out of the landfill.
Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) is going to collect greenery as the holidays come to an end.
It will be converted into mulch and woodchips, according to a release from NOVEC.
“Protecting the environment is a high priority at NOVEC,” Vegetation Management Manager Rick Carpenter said in a release. “Recycling holiday greens is just another way we help our customers and the environment.”
Items that don’t have decorations can be brought to the parking lot of the technical center, 5399 Wellington Branch Road in Gainesville, between December 26 and January 13.
The drop off spot will be marked by orange cones.
