The Breast Education, Awareness and Treatment (B.E.A.T.) Cancer Coalition is hosting a seminar on June 23 in Woodbridge.
The free seminar will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center’s Hylton Education Center at 2300 Opitz Boulevard.
The B.E.A.T. Cancer Coalition is an organization that is seeking to improve breast care in Prince William, by promoting screening, diagnosis, treatment, and care – particularly for those that are undeserved and underinsured. The coalition is funded with grant funding from the Potomac Health Foundation.
The seminar will cover topics that will benefit survivors, families, caregivers, and healthcare providers, including nutrition, healthy ‘superfoods’ and the mind-body relationship.
Presentations will include:
Dietary Patterns/Select Foods and Cancer Survivorship by Carlin Rafie, PhD, RD, from Virginia Tech’s Human Nutrition, Food and Exercise Department
The Mind-Body Relationship and benefits of “Qigong” by Dr Young Ju
Superfood Options and Preparation Techniques – a live demonstration (with samples) by Kathryn Strong, MS, RD, from the Virginia Cooperative Extension.
