The School Board of Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) accomplished another milestone on the projected opening of the 13th high school. On June 19, board members approved a boundary plan.
Last month, construction began on the school, which is set to open near Gainesville Middle School in fall 2021.
Students in attendance at Battlefield High School in Haymarket, Osbourn Park High School in Manassas, Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas, Patriot High School in Nokesville and Brentsville District High School in Nokesville will be affected by the new plan.
A release by PWCS stated the boundary plans were made to help reduce overcrowding in the western areas of Prince William County High Schools for the 2021-2022 school year.
Under the approved plan ninth and tenth graders will be assigned new high schools. Students entering eleventh grade will have a one-time choice to attend their new school or remain at current school. Upcoming seniors will remain at currently assigned school.
There is an option for families to type in their address and see if they are affected by the new plans on the 13th high school website.
