The Town of Dumfries is celebrating Black History Month on February 20 at the Little Union Baptist Church at 17150 Mine Road.
According to Dumfries Community Manager Brittany Heine, the celebration will feature guest speakers Reverend Michael Sessoms and Executive Director of the Prince William County Human Rights Commission Phyllis Aggrey.
The event will begin at 11 a.m. and will include performances from the Little Union Baptist’s Men’s Choir and the Dumfries Elementary Chorus, stated Heine.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Hallowed Grounds: Sites of African American Memories”, which was selected by the Association for the Study of African American Life & History, according to Heine.
“The Association has selected this theme to bring attention to the centennial celebration of the National Park Service and the more than twenty-five sites and the Underground Railroad Network to Freedom that are part of America’s hallowed grounds,” stated Heine.
