The rain didn’t stop a few people from checking out the 2017 Manassas Airshow on Saturday.
“We’re here today to show off the A-10. The A-10 was built around the gun, many people would know,” Staff Sergeant Fisher said. “It has CAS, which is ‘close air support,’ for our ground troops. And today and during the air show we’re going to fly it around a little bit, give everybody a taste of what the A-10 does.”
The event was held at the Manassas Regional Airport at 10600 Harry J Parrish Boulevard.
Its sponsors included the City of Manassas, Manassas Regional Airport, Leaseweb, American Helicopters Aviation Adventures, Alpha Industries and Aurora Flight Sciences were among the event’s sponsors.
The late State Senator Charles J. Colgan was remembered at the airshow.
“My dad, he loved his public service, but his first love was really aviation and he kept journals all the time,” Colgan’s son, Ray Colgan, said. “And in the last journal entry that he had – he kept it at the house in Lake Anna – he wrote, ‘The aviation business has been really good to me. I’ve made great friends and it’s filled with great people.’ So, it’s always going to be a part of our lives and really his legacy.”
Following the tribute, a car was given away to an active marine by Operation Give a Veteran a Car, which is sponsored by Joyce Koons Honda Buick GMC of Manassas.
