The Prince William County Police Department has named a new Division Chief for the Animal Control Bureau.
According to a release, Anthony Cleveland has been named to the position, and began his work on December 18.
In his new role, Cleveland will be overseeing the county’s animal control unit and the animal shelter in Manassas.

Mr. Cleveland has 25 years of experience in animal care. Having worked for such renowned organizations as The Bronx Zoo, The Humane Society of New York, Columbia University, Cornell University and Georgetown University. Most recently, Mr. Cleveland has spent close to 10 years as a member of the management team for the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.
During his tenure at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter, Mr. Cleveland was an integral part in overseeing the construction of a new facility and was instrumental in raising the standards of both animal and customer care. Mr. Cleveland’s unique and widely varied experience has allowed him to function as an advisor for subjects involving both animal care and humane law enforcement.
Since relocating to Virginia 13 years ago, Mr. Cleveland and his family have been residents of Prince William County. Mr. Cleveland is excited to help lead the advancement of the service the Prince William County Police Department provides to both the county’s human and animal residents.
