This year is American Heritage Girls’ 20th Anniversary!
American Heritage Girls’ tagline is “faith, service, fun!” The 20th Anniversary Signature Service Project is to arm knit scarves for a local ministry that serves the homeless.
AHG Troop VA 0428 is chartered out of All Saints Church on Gideon Drive, Woodbridge, VA. On October 13, our troop arm knitted scarves for the homeless. The girls had a great time learning how to make these warm scarves.
During the winter months, our troop partners with Grace Baptist Church (on Spriggs Rd, Woodbridge, VA). Grace Baptist Church has a Helping Hands of Grace ministry that helps the homeless of Woodbridge. Every Friday night, the Helping Hands of Grace drives vans to the Bill Mehr Drop in Shelter and picks up the homeless to bring back to the church for a warm dinner. This is the third year that our troop has volunteered to help with the dinners the first Friday of the month (November through March). Our troop prepares a delicious dinner, sets up the room, serves the dinner, and cleans up the room. Our girls and their siblings really enjoy this hands-on way to serve the homeless.
On November 6th, our troop not only served the homeless dinner, but we also gave out the scarves that we knitted. One memorable moment was the look of joy on one lady’s face as she found a pink scarf to keep her warm! Dinner was delicious as all the homeless were able to eat until they were full.
