The next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Action in Community Through Service (ACTS) has been chosen.
Stanley B. Jones was named to the position, which he is expected to start on September 5.
Jones has worked in education for 39 years, holding various roles, according to a release from ACTS. Most recently, he was Stafford County Public Schools’ Deputy Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer.
“ACTS’ mission is perfectly aligned with my personal mission to make the world better than I found it by serving children and families by actively serving the community,” Jones said in a release. “As a long-time public servant, I am fully committed to fostering hope and promoting self-sufficiency in our community. Joining ACTS allows me to serve the community directly. For me, it will be less like a transition and more like the true fulfillment of my life’s purpose, first defined by my parents, and validated by life and lived experiences.”
Jones is replacing Steven Liga, who served as CEO for almost eight years. When Liga shared his plan to leave ACTS in July 2022, the Dumfries non-profit started looking for its next leader. During this time, former Board Member and President David Strand acted as Interim CEO.
“The search process was long and arduous, and we examined several qualified candidates from different backgrounds, but our committee and staff leadership were willing to invest the hours and manpower to make a selection that will take ACTS into a bright future, worthy of its history of leadership and accomplishments,” Immediate Past Board President and CEO Search Committee Chair Amelia May said in a release. “Stan’s integrity, collaborative leadership style, and proven team-building approach shined through in his meetings with our board and ACTS’ officers and his list of references. He is an enthusiastic and effective communicator, which we expect will be an inspiration both to clients and staff.”
Established in 1969, ACTS offers housing services and programs for those who have faced domestic violence and sexual assault. It runs a Hunger Prevention Center and Thrift Store, as well.
