The 2020 Census will soon be taking place.
Volunteers are needed to share information about it.
This month, the county is offering training for those interested in helping out, according to a release from Prince William County.
They are taking place on Tuesday at the Dr. A.J. Ferlazzo Building, 15941 Donald Curtis Drive in Woodbridge, and Thursday at the Sudley North Government Center, 7987 Ashton Avenue in Manassas. Both training sessions will run from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Anyone who would like to participate may email demographics@pwcgov.org or call 703-792-7098.
Volunteers will hand out fliers and talk with community members at events and locations.
“They will be able to answer questions, such as what languages the Census is offering to take the survey, what each question is, when it’s taking place and ‘what if’ scenarios,” Prince William County Demographer Brian Engelman said in a release.
“Census Saturday!” are among the programs that volunteers will assist at.
“At each of these events, we will be having Census staff and our volunteers present to provide people with the information and resources they need to understand the Census and take the Census,” Engelman said.
They are being held between March 14 to April 11 at Bull Run Regional Library, 8051 Ashton Avenue in Manassas; Chinn Park Regional Library, 13065 Chinn Park Drive in Woodbridge; Haymarket Gainesville Community Library, 14870 Lightner Road in Haymarket; Montclair Community Library, 5049 Waterway Drive; and Potomac Community Library, 2201 Opitz Boulevard in Woodbridge, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Staff members and volunteers will also be set up at Dumfries Neighborhood Library, 18115 Triangle Shopping Plaza, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The census impacts the county in various ways.
Determining the amount of funding it receives for transportation and education is one of them.
“An accurate Census count ensures that Prince William County gets its appropriate share of federal funds,” Engelman explained.
