Prince William County took part in the 13th annual ceremony for National Adoption Day over the weekend.
The courts of the 31st Judicial District, Prince William County Department of Social Services, the City of Manassas Department of Family Services, and the Manassas Park Department of Social Services came together for the Adoption Day ceremony in Manassas.
More than 20 children were adopted and recognized with their families.
According to judge the Honorable Lisa Baird, National Adoption Day started as a small movement, but has grown across the country.
“National Adoption Day has grown from a grassroots effort in 2000 with only nine events held across the country, to more than 400 events in all 50 states, and the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico,” said Baird.
“This is the happy thing that we do in our department. And to sign the adoptions and to be a part of this – you all, the families – may not know us, but I can assure you we know you…and it’s just so delightful to see you,” said Prince William County Department of Social Services Director Courtney Tierney.
