Action in Community Through Service (ACTS) seeks to help individuals from all walks of life.
Support from various organizations is helping make this possible.
Wegmans is a sponsor of the eighth annual IWALK for ACTS, which is scheduled for October 6.
Proceeds for the event, which is being held at Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center in Woodbridge, will benefit ACTS.
ACTS is a Dumfries-based non-profit that offers various services in Prince William County.
“We couldn’t do that — we couldn’t serve our community without the support of our community, and one of our great supporters is Wegmans,” ACTS CEO Steve Liga said. “Not only do they sponsor our IWALK, they provide us with funds, they collect funds for us, they bring food for us every week, and they even send their staff as volunteers to help us in our Hunger Prevention Center. Wegmans is a true partner.”
What’s Up Prince William spoke with Drease Yarbro, store manager for the Wegmans at Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center about why the company supports ACTS.
How long has Wegmans been supporting ACTS?
We’ve supported ACTS since its inception — or actually since the IWALK’s inception — so for the last eight years.
Why do you support ACTS?
We support ACTS, because some of their foundational beliefs very closely align with ours. We really believe in giving back to every community in which we serve, and trying to help people live healthier and better life through food. Really kind of reducing the amount of hunger in any community that we serve is definitely something that we strongly believe in as a company.
How does Wegmans support IWALK for ACTS?
As a title sponsor for this IWALK event — the IWALK event is one of ACTS’ largest fundraising events every year. So, we feel very strongly and very passionately about being the best community partner that we can [be]. We give a large monetary donation on top of an in-kind donation of food, drinks and support from our own employee base. So, we just feel like it’s definitely the best use of our time and our resources to be that community partner that we all strive to be.
Is there anything else you would like to say?
One of the things that we truly believe in at Wegmans is respect, that’s one of our foundational beliefs — in a way to kind of give back to the community in a respectful manner. We firmly believe that sometimes people fall on hard times, and we don’t look down on people that do that. So, we try to partner with agencies in our community that also have the same mentality for respecting our brothers and sisters who need it — who need help.
