Several Special Olympians and law enforcement officers helped kick off Special Olympics Virginia by running through parts of Prince William County.
The annual Torch run took place on Thursday.
The Torch, which was lit in Arlington, symbolizes the start of the Special Olympics games, according to a release.
Each year, it is carried to Richmond, where the games are being held.
Runners began their journey at Fire Station 17 in Montclair before traveling down Cardinal Drive and Route 1 to the U.S. Marine Corps Base.
Members of the Prince William County Police Department’s (PWCPD) Motorcycle Unit escorted them through the county.
The Special Olympics games will open on Friday at 7 p.m.
