More than 270 community members grabbed their bikes and hit the roads a couple of weeks ago.
Serve Our Willing Warriors (SOWW), a Haymarket-based non-profit, hosted its first annual Warrior Bike Ride on May 6.
The fundraiser, held at The Farm Brewery at Broad Run, offered four bicycle paths that participants could choose from.
Micron Technology was a sponsor of the Warrior Bike Ride.
“Micron Technology is a huge supporter of the veterans. We’re very actively involved with the veteran community here. Virginia values veterans, hiring our heroes,” Mike Williamson from Micron Technology said. “It’s a great cause, and we just love being here.”
SOWW, which runs the Warrior Retreat at Bull Run, collected $65,000 in monetary and in-kind donations. Amazon Web Services donated $15,000.
The proceeds will be used to construct a second home at the retreat, according to President Shirley Dominick.
Shirley Dominick co-founded SOWW with her husband, John, in 2012.
“Once you see who is supporting you, the struggles, the sacrifices that the warriors and their families are doing for us everyday, you can’t but say, ‘You know what? No more. No more on your own,’” Shirley Dominick told event attendees. “We have to pull up. We have to pull up as a community, as family, as friend and be a part.”
