Dr. Babur B. Lateef has been appointed as the Prince William County School Board’s interim Chairman At-Large.
Lateef will serve as a temporary replacement for former School Board Chairman Ryan Sawyers, who resigned from the board last month.
As interim Chairman At-Large, he will perform all chairman duties until a special election takes place in November, according to a release.
In addition to leading board meetings, he will sign documents the board authorizes and represent the board at events.
Lateef, a physician and the owner of Advanced Ophthalmology, Inc. in Woodbridge, graduated from Youngstown State University in Ohio and Northern Ohio University.
He serves as a member of the Board of Director for SPARK, Prince William County Public Schools’ (PWCS) education foundation.
The interim chairman is also a member of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) at Marshall Elementary School, Benton Middle School, and Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.
He and his wife Dr. Tarannum Lateef, have four children who are PWCS students.
