Two Woodbridge residents have joined the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC) Board of Commissioners.
Darrell “D.J.” Jordan Jr. and Kalai Kandasamy are the board’s newly appointed alternates.
Jordan and Kandasamy are among six alternates representing Prince William County, according to a release.
In this role, they will attend the board’s monthly Commission meetings and vote when members are unable to attend. They can serve on PRTC committees, as well.
“Both of these gentlemen are daily commuters with first-hand experience in problem-solving and using public transportation,” PRTC Board Chair Ruth Anderson said in a release. “I’m sure their experiences and backgrounds will provide the Board with valuable insight as we look for ways to improve mobility for all area residents.”
Jordan, a congressional aide in the United States Senate, uses OmniRide express bus or a slug carpool for his daily commutes to Washington, D.C.
“My goal as a member of the PRTC Board is to reduce commute times and increase commuter options so that Prince William residents spend less time in traffic and more time at their jobs or with their families,” Jordan said in a release.
He plans to focus on affordable transportation options for county residents and relieving congestion on major roadways, including Route 28 and I-95.
Kandasamy, an enterprise architect and consultant for the Department of Defense (DoD), has more than 20 years of experience in cybersecurity, Information Technology (IT) and data analysis.
When commuting to Washington, D.C., he has used Virginia Railway Express (VRE), carpooling, OmniRide express buses, and slugging.
Kandasamy hopes to create an improved transportation system and use technology to reduce the amount of time community members spending commuting.
The PRTC Board of Commissioners meet on the first Thursday of every month at the Transit Center, 14700 Potomac Mills Road in Woodbridge.
Meetings, which are open to the public, begin at 7 p.m.
