Low-income adults are getting connected to local jobs.
Literacy Volunteers of America – Prince William (LVA-PW) has received an $8,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF).
LVA-PW is a non-profit in Dale City that was established 28 years ago. It offers tutoring and classes on various topics, including civics and citizenship as well as GED preparation, according to a release from LVA-PW.
Since it was founded in 1993, DGLF has provided more than $146 million to groups that focus on literacy.
The grant is being used for the English as a Second Language (ESL) and Job Readiness for New Immigrants programs.
“In recent years, our community has experienced an influx of new immigrant families, many are refugees,” a release stated.
