Across the county, shoppers are heading to stores in search of the perfect gifts for loved ones.
Business owners can help protect their customers throughout the holidays.
The Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue (PWCDFR) Chief Kevin McGee has a few fire safety suggestions.
McGee is advising merchants to keep building exits clear, according to a release. Storage must be kept at least 18 inches away from sprinkler heads and 2 feet from the ceiling of facilities that don’t have a sprinkler system.
He also recommends that businesses maintain crowds to prevent overcrowding and keep extinguishers accessible.
They should also post signs reminding patrons not to park in fire lanes or block fire hydrants.
Staff from the county’s Fire Marshals Office will be completing fire hazard checks throughout the season.
