Members of the Latino community learned about how they can protect their families on Saturday.
Hispanic Organization For Leadership & Action (HOLA) hosted a discussion called “Protect your family, it’s time to talk!” at TODOS Supermarket in Dumfries.
SCAN Executive Director Sonia Quiñonez, Family Services Network Executive Director Astrid Gamez, and ACTION in Community Through Service (ACTS) Sexual Assault Specialist Maggie Perez spoke at the event.
Quiñonez discussed how parents can take care of their children.
She also emphasized the importance of not letting stress create problems between a parent and their children.
Gamez explained how parents can determine if their child has been abused, and how they can educate their children about sex.
Perez spoke about the signs a parent should look for if they believe their child has been sexually assaulted.
She also mentioned how parents can talk about sexual assault, and mentioned resources that are available throughout Northern Virginia.
