The new City of Manassas Public Safety Facility is one step closer to being completed.
Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum, PC (HOK) has been chosen to design the building, which is expected to open on Grant Avenue in summer 2021, according to a release.
Residents met to discuss the project in June.
The City’s Law Enforcement, Emergency Communications and Operations, Fire and Rescue Administration, and Information Technology will be stationed in the facility.
Law Enforcement’s current headquarters, which sits on Fairview Avenue, will be used for government offices.
The Public Safety Facility will offer offices, storage and lockers for law enforcement, an exercise room and a training room.
It will face Grant Avenue and feature a public plaza and a memorial honoring Manassas’ first responders and public safety employees.
“As specialists in the design of civic and law enforcement facilities, we look forward to working with the City, Police, Fire & Rescue departments, neighbors and the community at large to design a new Public Safety Facility that will provide a safe and secure environment for the efficient operations of these vital public safety services,” Senior Project Manager Scott Hemlock said in a release. “The new building will be designed to meet all project goals while presenting an image that is reflective of the City’s motto — Historic heart. Modern beat.”
The building’s construction is being funded as a fiscal 2019 project in the Manassas’ five-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP). It is also a part of the City’s goal to offer more public spaces on Grant Avenue.
Improvements are slated to begin along Grant Avenue between Lee Avenue and Wellington Road this year.
HOK, a Washington, D.C.-based architecture, design, engineering and planning firm, has 23 offices located on three continents.
It has designed several facilities nationwide that are used by federal agencies, and local and state governments.
The Fairfax County Public Safety Headquarters and the Fairfax County McConnell Public Safety Transportation & Operation Center are a couple of the HOK Justice Team’s recent projects.
