A new book is offering guidance to those who have become Homeowner’s Association (HOA) and Condominium Owner Association (COA) board members.
Heather Steele from Compton & Duling has recently published a handbook called “Elected: Now What?”
It focuses on the basics of serving on HOA and COA boards.
“A lot of people want to get on their board and get involved, but they don’t know quite what to do,” Steele said. “And so, this is a great handbook to get you started and understanding your role and your responsibility as a board member.”
The book also answers various questions that board members may have, such as “How do I run a board meeting?”
During the past several years, Steele has taught an “HOA/COA Leadership Seminar.”
Several class participants have asked Steele if there is a book that can help them understand what it means to be a board member.
“I realized there was a real lack in the market for a book that just talks specifically about being a Virginia HOA or Condo board member,” Steele said. “So, I thought, ‘Hey, I’ll write it.’”
“Elected: Now What?” is available on Amazon. All proceeds from the book will go to Smart Beginnings Greater Prince William (SBGPW), which aims to improve the quality of early childhood care and education.
A book launch will take place at Centrefuse in Manassas on May 10 from 5 to 8 p.m.
