It’s almost time for Virginia residents to lace up their hiking boots and head for the great outdoors.
Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center is hosting a First Day Hike on New Year’s Day.
The Front Royal-based non-profit offers programs for children and families in 19 localities, including Prince William County.
Between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., participants can explore the Appalachian Trail from Peters Lodge to Rector Lodge.
Starting at 10 a.m., a campfire and s’mores will be available for hikers at the Campfire Circle located near the Fairfax Shelter.
The restrooms will be closed to visitors, because they are being winterized.
Individuals are encouraged to share photos on social media by using #nova4h.
