Bonfires, hot chocolate and comfortable sweatshirts are a few trademarks of fall.
The new season also brings several popular events to Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center in Woodbridge.
IWALK for ACTS, PetOberfest, and the Holiday Tree Lighting are among them.
The eighth annual IWALK for ACTS, a 5k run/walk event, is scheduled for at 8 a.m. on October 6.
It will be followed by a free family festival that offers vendors and activities.
Proceeds from the IWALK for ACTS are benefiting Action in Community Through Service (ACTS), a Dumfries-based non-profit that offers various services.
“It’s truly amazing what that organization does for all of Prince William County,” Stonebridge Property Manager Anastasia Podorski said.
IWALK has been hosted at the town center for the past three years.
“I was very happy to be able to turn the shopping center over to those folks to do a giant fundraising project for them,” Podorski said.
PetOberfest will be held a week later.
Cats and dogs will be available for adoption during PetOberfest, which will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on October 13.
It’s almost like we’ve gone to the dogs that day,” Podorski said. “We’ve got lots of vendors set up — everything from rescue organizations to folks that sell clothing and leashes.”
Stonebridge visitors can bring their furry friends, as well.
“We always do a costume contest, which is always a lot of fun to see all the people who come dressed with their pets,” Podorski said.
The annual Holiday Tree Lighting is one of the last events of the year.
Face painting, pictures with Santa, and the lighting of a 40-foot tree are a few features of the event, which will begin at 6 p.m. on November 23.
“It’s the end of Thanksgiving and the kind of kick off to that holiday season,” Podorski said. “It’s also one of my favorites, just because you see so many people that are just excited to be out and about.”
