Community members are about to start hitting the streets in preparation for an annual fundraiser.
Action in Community Through Service (ACTS) and Image Church are teaming up for the eighth annual IWALK for ACTS.
The 5k walk/run event will be held at Stonebridge Potomac Town Center in Woodbridge on October 6. The race is set to begin at 8 a.m., with check-in taking place at 7 a.m.
Registration costs $20 per person or team member and $50 for each family until September 1, according to a release. The fees will then increase to $25 per person and $55 per family.
Proceeds from the event benefit ACTS.
Nearly $100,000 was raised at last year’s IWALK. In 2011, $9,400 was collected through the event.
“It’s fitting that ACTS’ only major fundraiser is called “IWALK,” because it’s one thing to talk about helping our neighbors in need; it is another to walk the walk. ACTS’ staff and volunteers feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the sick and imprisoned, and do so much more every day,” ACTS CEO Steve Liga said in a release. “For one Saturday every October, the entire community comes out to walk with us and share in our mission.”
A free family festival will follow the 5K. It will offer food vendors and several activities for children, including face painting and games.
Members of Image Church volunteer at IWALK event each year.
“From the beginning, Image Church has had a desire to make an impact in our community, and IWALK is an annual event for us to do just that. We love to be able to give back and serve our community in a tangible way,” Image Church Lead Pastor Chris Rhodenhizer said in a release. “We desire for this to continue to bring families together for fun, and to be able to give back to those in need. Our desire is that this will continue to help our community come together do something good together.”
