The Town of Dumfries Police Department is in capable hands.
James McCarty was named the new Chief of Police this week.
“I am proud to be in the position, and I’m going to do the best job I can,” he said. “I have a good core group of people here and we have a very good department, and I think we’re going to achieve a whole lot of goals here.”
McCarty, who is replacing Nicholas Esposito, has more than 24 years of experience in law enforcement.
“I come from a rural county, where I was a patrol sergeant on the SWAT team,” McCarty said.
In addition to experience, the new chief has integrity, according to Mayor Derrick Wood.
“I’m very confident that this chief is going to take Dumfries into the next dimension, the next hemisphere that’s going to make us a top tier police department in this area,” Wood said.
Members of the Dumfries Town Council were unified in their decision to name McCarty the new Chief of Police.
“We see him as a man who’s going to be one not to see people coming in as a revolving door, but people coming to this department and stay and to grow this department,” Wood said.
McCarty, Wood added, “leads by example” and is someone community members can rely on.
