Many families and friends will be congregating for the upcoming holidays.
In addition to joy and new memories, the festivities can bring potential dangers for children.
Parents and guardians can help prevent accidents by checking to see if homes their families are visiting are childproof.
The Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue (PWCDFR) suggests that adults use gates to block off pools and stairs.
Medication, household cleaners, guns, and lighters should be kept out of reach from children.
It’s also recommended that parents and guardians make sure food served doesn’t contain ingredients their children are allergic to.
They can also practice toy safety by following a few tips the department released earlier this month.
“Holidays should be memorable, fun-filled events to share with family and friends for generations to follow,” PWCDFR Chief Kevin McGee said in a release. “Take the necessary precautions to keep your loved ones safe during the holiday season and throughout the year.”
