Family and friends are remembering an avid skateboarder by creating a space for those who share his passion.
The Charlie Boone Trails Memorial Foundation, Inc. is looking to open a bike and skateboard park.
The non-profit was founded to honor Charlie Boone, who passed away when he was 22.
In spring 2014, the Boone family began raising awareness about the need of a Lake Ride skate park.
“The young people who currently ride in the streets and parking lots in our neighborhoods need a safe place to ride and where they can feel that they are a part of the community in which they live,” a release stated.
The park would also serve as a recreational spot for teenagers and young adults who are struggling with depression and anxiety.
The group started working with Supervisor Ruth Anderson’s office and the Prince William County Department of Parks and Recreation two years later.
Land for the project has been in found in Lake Ridge. The potential site sits on five and a half acres, and is can be accessed by bikers, skaters and walkers.
But before the park can be established, the Charlie Boone Trails Memorial Foundation must raise $50,000 to create a Master Plan.
Those interested in making a donation can visit the foundation’s website.
