Cat lovers have a chance to help animals in need.
The Prince William County Animal Shelter is at capacity for felines. To prevent overcrowding, it has begun managing the number of cats it’s taking in.
The Prince William Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Prince William SPCA) is sponsoring a “Spay it Forward” promotion to help increase cat adoptions, according to a release.
The promotion, which runs through June 30, underwrites spay and neuter surgery costs for animal shelter cats who are a year old or older.
The surgery typical costs between $90 and $145.
“Kittens are in high demand to be adopted, but once the cats reach one year, they often are overlooked – especially if they are not spayed or neutered,” a release stated.
The surgery cost may discourage families who are interested in adopting a cat.
In the “Spay it Forward” promotion, it will cost $45 to adopt a feline. The fee covers the spay and neuter surgery, rabies vaccine, microchip, and distemper combo vaccine.
Community members interested in adopting a cat can visit the animal shelter, 14807 Bristow Road in Manassas, and the Prince William SPCA’s P.A.W. Express mobile adoption van.
To learn more information about the mobile van, visit the Prince William SPCA website.
County residents can also help by fostering. For more information about fostering, call the shelter at 703-792-6465.
