Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is not your average popcorn-soda movie theater.
Located at Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center in Woodbridge, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema will offer a unique experience for movie goers.
The movie theater has a soft opening of June 9, and it will officially open on June 14.
In addition to eight theaters, the 40,000-square-foot business features a bar that will offer 32 craft beers and a restaurant.
“We have a full restaurant of food and beverages delivered to your seat,” Creative Manager Kajun Waybright said. “Ninety percent of the food is made from scratch in-house every single morning.”
Offering a high quality experience is a top priority for Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.
“We’re trying to create a meaningful, dynamic experience that is flawless,” Waybright said. “We don’t want to serve food, and have it be something we threw in a microwave. We don’t want to have recliners and a small screen in front of you. We don’t want to have this giant screen and but an audio experience that doesn’t match it.”
The theater plans to offer various programs for community members, including a program called “Video Vortex.”
“[For ‘Video Vortex’] we take a film that’s only on VHS — it’s died on VHS and it should never see the light of day,” Waybright said. “But we’ll transfer it to digital, put it on the screen, charge you a dollar, you’ll come watch it for nothing, and you can laugh with 50 other people. It’s a great experience.”
Another program, “Kids Camp,” will offer children movies. Audience members can pay between $1, $3 or $5 to watch the film. The proceeds will be donated to a charity.
“Alamo for All” is a program that is geared toward new parents and individuals who have “sensory needs,” according to Waybright.
It will be offered before 2 p.m. on Tuesdays.
“So we’ll raise the lights a little bit, we’ll lower the sound, and people can just enjoy Alamo,” Waybright said.
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is located where Toby Keith’s ‘I Love This Bar and Grill’ once stood.
Tickets for Alamo Drafthouse Cinema’s soft opening are now available for purchase.
“We’re going to have films most of the day,” Waybright said. “You’re going to get a discount on your food and non-alcoholic beverages while we train our staff.”
Ocean’s 8, Hereditary, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Avengers: Infinity War, and RBG will be playing.
