A Dumfries-based non-profit is looking for volunteers who are willing to help others.
Action in Community Through Service (ACTS) needs a little extra help with the services it offers.
Volunteers are needed to help with administrative work and the organization’s 24/7 helpline, according to Volunteer Coordinator Tamika Martin.
The helpline is available for those who feel hopeless or lonely, and for those who have suicidal thoughts.
Groups can also lend a hand by serving in the ACTS Thrift Store and the Hunger Prevention Center (HPC).
ACTS offers many volunteer opportunities that are based on various interests and types of availability.
“There are so many services at ACTS that I think lots of people don’t know anything about,” Martin said. “So, I recommend — even if you’re not sure where people want to volunteer — just come out and see what we do.”
Helping the community isn’t the only perk of volunteering at ACTS.
“I’ve even had some volunteers who came in and they did administrative work, and I’ve had some people be like, ‘I didn’t even know that these kinds of things were opportunities for me,’” Martin said. “So, it can also help you build your skill set, as well.”
