The summer heat can be felt throughout the state today.
A free Slurpee could make it a bit more bearable.
The 7-Eleven is offering free Slurpees as part of 7-Eleven Day.
For the celebration, customers can pick up a free small Slurpee and purchase a ¼ pound Big Bite hotdog for $1.
Every year, the Texas-based chain celebrates its birthday and other accomplishments on July 11, a tradition that began in 2002, according to a release.
The convenience stores are expected to give out nine million Slurpees nationwide today.
“Free Slurpee day may be the most anticipated day of the year for millions of 7‑Eleven customers and new customers alike,” Raj Kapoor, 7‑Eleven senior vice president for fresh food and proprietary beverages, said in a release. “7‑Eleven Day is a celebration, not only of our birthday, but more importantly, of our customers.”
7-Eleven was founded in 1927. The chain is now made up of nearly 12,000 locations across North America and more than 66,000 stores globally.
In 1966, 7-Eleven introduced the Slurpee, which was named after the sound made when the drink goes through the straw.
